About
A new archive on a domain that used to hold a studio
This site writes about PC adventure games released between 1990 and 2010, about running them legally today, and about the small teams making the form again.
What was here before
This domain previously belonged to Brethren Entertainment, a small game studio that ran a site here between 2001 and 2008 with a catalogue of its own games, playable demos, a browser games section and a phpBB forum. The studio's own pages, forums, demos and downloadable files have not been restored, and this site does not offer any of them.
The short version: a catalogue of the studio's own games, playable demos, a browser games section, and a phpBB forum. None of it is restored. There are no downloads on this site, and no old forum threads.
Who runs it now
A new owner has held this domain since November 2026. The operator is notBrethren Entertainment, is not affiliated with it, and does not speak for it. No content here is written on behalf of that studio or of any publisher whose games are discussed.
What we publish
- How the adventure genre developed across the 1990s and 2000s, with dates and sources.
- Practical routes to playing older games legally: emulation engines, official re-releases, and freeware releases their rights holders published themselves.
- Introductions to small independent adventure games, judged on what a player can check.
What we do not publish
- Links to unauthorised copies, cracked builds, or ROM collections.
- Restored pages, files, or forum content from the previous operator.
- Paid placements, sponsored reviews, or affiliate arrangements.
- Anything about putting money on a game's outcome.
Who we are not
We are not Brethren Entertainment. We are also not any of the studios, publishers, or preservation projects named in our posts. A project's name appears when it is the thing being described or the place a reader should go for a download — never as an endorsement of this site by them.
How the writing is produced
Each post starts from a question a player actually asks, is checked against the publisher, the preservation project, or the game's own documentation, and lists those sources at the end. Draft stages are labelled on the page. The full process, including AI disclosure, is in the editorial policy.
